Software Center / Application Catalog Error

OK so I just finished assisting a colleague with an issue that is probably plaguing a few of us.  Its starts like this....

You get the following error when opening the Software Center.

Eswar Konetis Blog - Internet Explorer 2015-05-08 17.20.56.png

Or you see the following error when attempting to install an application from the Application Catalog.

Or you see two  Configuration Manager Applets in the Control Panel

Or you only see the following two Actions.

And for some odd reason the CM Client is at version 5.00.7958.1000 instead of 5.00.7958.1401 (there is only cause for alarm if this persist for more than a day).

So what causes this?  It looks like a partial uninstall of CM 07 registry values.  These do not get removed for whatever reason.  They can be removed manually by doing the following:

  • Open up the registry editor elevated.

  • Make a backup of the registry.

  • Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and Find {555B0C3E-41BB-4B8A-A8AE-8A9BEE761BDF}

  • There will be multiple instances of these.  Use F3 to cycle to the next value.  Verify that the following value exist: C:\WINDOWS\CCM\ccmcisdk.dll

  • In the event you find a value containing dcmsdk.dll such as the one shown below it will need to be removed.  Did u do a backup?  If so just simply delete the value.

  • That's it.  This took several hours worth of research but hopefully it only takes u 5 minutes to fix.  Thanks to the guy who shared this experience and his findings from opening a support call with Microsoft.
